About

I am frustrated by the lack of fresh ideas and want to test my hypothesis about freezing the water and oil surrounding the leak to be vetted. I know that water has unique properties of expansion when frozen and I believe these changes in state can be used to reduce and hopefully stop the flow of oil from the BP/Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. While recognizing the extreme pressure water would have to overcome to freeze at a depth of 5,000 feet, I do not believe that this is unrealistic. In addition, freezing the ground below the blowout preventer and freezing the blowout preventer itself at a low enough temperature could increase the viscosity of the oil and be used in conjunction with other forms of containment to end the leak. Simple examples I am working with are solid CO2 (dry ice) or its liquid form (which only forms at pressures above 5.185 atm (518.5 kPa) or liquid nitrogen.  CO2 is attractive because it is a cheap way to make things very cold -70C and we already have too much of it. The diameter of the blowout preventer is only 21″!

I hope through this website and the aggregation of knowledge surrounding the BP/Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill we can end the leak, clean up the ecological damage, and then stop to rethink oil. I want to Freeze Oil.
